The right product for the right setting – that’s the FIRST benefit

Most homes are different in look or outlook. Size and aspect vary almost infinitely. FIRST offers a product range and selection that recognises this reality. We have a specialised suite of windows and doors to suit every taste and functional requirement.

For the majority of homes the FIRST Residential range will do just fine. It has a ThermalHEART option as well. However, where bigger formats or specialised applications are required there are several upgrade suites – METRO SERIES (including ThermalHEART), APL ARCHITECTURAL SERIES and SMARTWOOD. These all have their own unique features and benefits.

This mainstream suite of windows and doors has been the subject of continuous evolution to suit the requirements of the bulk of New Zealand home styles and locations. It is the perfect choice for most housing projects.

A complete portfolio of window and door types is offered – awning, casement, sliding, bi-folding, custom designed and overhead windows. Within each category there is scope to select specialised features. There is a thermally efficient ThermalHEART option for those climatic situations where interior comfort and full insulative effects are required.

There are door styles to suit every need, from formal entrance doors to sliders and bi-folds. Sliding doors, in particular offer a comprehensive choice, including corner sliders and double sliders. Bi-folds offer the ‘lay-back’ option for clear decks.

Grouped under five design series – Latitude, Axis, Aquila, Classic and Plasma – the options vary from tongue-and-groove doors to clean smooth panels for a minimalist architectural look. Traditional scrolled designs are also available for the right setting and the Lindo profile for an added design feature.

Our door panels are super stable – because they’re made from aluminium they don’t swell or move in damp conditions.  The solid foam inner core for all panels supplied is also a benefit from a thermal viewpoint - the transfer of cold to the interior is greatly reduced. High resistance to forced entry is another positive.

All doors can be supplied in dual colour panels, allowing homeowners to match interior and exterior colour schemes more seamlessly.  The durable Mannex finish is generally used, a low sheen powder coat that is very resistant to marking and scuffing.

Advanced ThermalHEART technology offers maximum energy conservation an interior comfort. This insulating innovation lies at the centre of each profile in the FIRST Residential and Metro Series ThermalHEART window and door ranges.

In these products a thermal insulator has been cleverly included around each window and door to ensure that cold transfer is minimised and interior warmth is retained. This powerful enhancement combined with double glazing makes for the ultimate in sensible year-round living.

now available with flushline sill

Sliding doors in the Metro Series from First now have clean, flush sills. The

market-leading ‘Flushline’ aesthetics have been rolled out to Metro, following on from

their earlier introduction on First Residential sliders and the APL Architectural Series

  • Simplified styling – minimal upstands to the outside.
  • Roller and track system cope easily with heavier, double glazed sliders.
  • Minimal effort to open and close.
  • Square frame accentuates flush interior-to-exterior sightlines.
  • Overwall slider options available.
  • Flush door stiles in the closed position for a clean, compact look.
  • Doors feature stiffening boxes on stiles; no fins.
  • Suitable to 2.4m high in an extra high wind zone.
  • Available with all the same features in the thermally efficient Metro ThermalHEART range.

The APL ARCHITECTURAL SERIES is perfect for ‘big picture’ architecturally designed homes and apartments. It is modern and meticulous in design and is suitable where size and strength are priorities.

Frames and profiles generally have clean, flush surfaces and square-edge forms for a contemporary appearance. Different window frame options are available to ensure continuity with the width of adjoining sliding door frames.

A full suite of doors is available in heights of 2.7m and taller, depending on wind zone. Specialist sliders are possible, including corner sliders, cavity sliders, over-wall doors, and double sliders. Flush sills and easy sliding panels are an integral part of the slider system.

Hardware is often one of the defining features of windows and doors. The form and function of handles and latches provide a tactile experience that can considerably enhance the appearance and usability of FIRST windows and doors.

Unity of design and consistency of performance shape the look and feel of the MIRO, ICON and URBO ranges of window and door hardware. Achieving a family likeness within each range was a priority; achieving excellent functionality was a requirement.

Each range has a different look to ensure varying customer tastes are catered for. There is a choice of stainless steel hardware, the ICON range, for those applications where a robust, metallic and highly durable window and door locks are required.
